DigitalTWIN Has Received Special Mention At The buildingSMART Award

International award for research project

DigitalTWIN has received a Special Mention at the buildingSMART International Award at the end of October for its research results with a focus on BIM. This award from the worldwide umbrella organisation for the standardisation of BIM data exchange in the construction industry honours exemplary and relevant projects that use openBIM. DigitalTWIN received the Special Mention in the category "Professional Research using openBIM". This is the first such far-reaching international recognition for the research project and underlines the relevance of digitalisation in the construction industry.

"We are very pleased about this Special Mention because it has enabled us to place the project results on an international level and the further work will more apparent to a broader group of experts," says Dr. Fabian Schmid, Project Manager DigitalTWIN. "This special recognition gives further incentive to implement our results and applications in practice."

Driving Digitalisation Forward In The Construction Industry

DigitalTWIN has the aim to develop open platforms and digital tools to network and automate services, processes and procedures in the construction industry. The focus is shifting toward universal solutions to drive digitalisation forward on a broad scale: From the expansion of the IT infrastructure to cloud-based data processing and the practical use of XR technologies on the construction site. Three use cases with accompanying demos focus on the relevant interfaces between planning, production and building operation. DigitalTWIN is being funded within the scope of the “Smart Services World II” programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs & Energy.

The award ceremony took place virtually during the buildingSMART conference on 28 and 29 October. The contributions of the nominated projects and the special mentions are available here.
